Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle said it was sickening to go out of the World Cup to a goal which should have been disallowed for handball.
France claimed a 1-1 draw which took them through 2-1 in the play-off but the goal from William Gallas should not have counted as Thierry Henry handled.
"The linesman had the best view, apart from Shay Given," said Doyle.
"I am sure Henry did not expect to get away with it because it was so obvious. It is difficult, we are all gutted."
Doyle said the Republic had produced a great display and had chances to go through to the finals in South Africa.
"We aid we had to play high up and not let them settle," added the Wolves player.
"We played excellently and created chances.
"To see that goal on TV, it is just sickening.
"But, even after that, we just had to score. It was not to be but it is tough when you realise what an opportunity we had.
"I do not know what to say about their goal really.
"You do not blame the player if he can get away with it, it is nearly a natural reaction."

Doyle's team-mate Kevin Kilbane said he spoke to Henry after the game.
"He said the ball had just hit him but when I saw it on TV it did not look like that. It seemed he dragged the ball back.
"We are disappointed with the officials."
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni said: "We are angry. It is a bitter evening for me.
"The referee should have asked Henry, I'm sure he would have admitted there was a handball.
"We played a great game. We deserved to win."
